Maths - Addition and Subtraction

WALT: use and show different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.

I know you can solve addition and subtraction problems using place value (working with the 10's first and then the 1's). You need to make sure you complete your earning activities so we have something to show your parents.

WALT: ask questions as we read to make sure we understand what we read.

Remember we can question before we read…
What is this going to be about? What do I already know that will help me understand? what do I want to find out?
We can question as we read…
what does that mean? what is going to happen next? what else do I want to know?
We can question after we read…
does that make sense? what have I learned? have I answered my earlier questions? what else do I want to know?

    • I learned to: ask questions to help me enjoy the story.
    • Most challenging was: think up the questions
    • Next step is to: listen to instructions and pay attention so I know what to do during my learning time.
You can use prediction to help you 'tune in' to your text and to better understand what you are reading. You need to keep practising asking questions as you read, keep thinking and wondering to make sure you know all that the story is about, not just the gist.Kerri

Sharing our Stories

We have been creating a variety of art pieces this term. These pieces are all about ourselves and sharing our stories. We have used different media like collage, watercolour, crayon and clay to create our art. We are beginning to make choices as artists. Each piece of art shares a little about us.

WALT: share our stories and ideas through art.
WALT: explore a variety of media and make choices about
how we want our finished piece to look

Success criteria: * our message is clear
* our art represents us
* we have tried different media
* we choose the media to create the effect we want

I Think
My Buddy Thinks

I choose media to create the effect I wanted
Don't know
my favourite media is… because
Collage because of the bright colours.

Tayla, you have enjoyed exploring the different you have used. I can see you really enjoyed all the colours and the bold shapes of painting with scissors. You are starting to make choices, as an artist,  about the media and the colours you use to create the effect you want. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and seeing what you create.

WALT: Learning to Learn

Success Criteria:
  • know what I am learning to do
  • I know what I need to to to get better
  • I plan activities that are going to help my learning
  • I follow my plan
  • use my learning time wisely (complete my activities on time)
We are on the path to becoming self directed learners in Adventure 9. This means we are beginning to make choices that help us grow as learners. We know what we are learning and what we need to do to get better.

We plan our week choosing activities that are going to help us reach our goals. We plan all the must do’s and then add the can do’s.

I think
My Buddy thinks
I know what I am learning
Yes I do know what I am learning.
most of the time because sometimes she chats on the mat.
I know what I need to do to get better
I need to get better at maths.
yes she has to get better at maths.
I plan activities that are going to help my learning
Sometimes I do but sometimes I forget.
yes she is right she sometimes forget.
I follow my plan

Most of the time I do.
yes most of the time
I use my learning time wisely
Not that much but sometimes.
not that much
Tayla, you are trying to plan your week and I can see how much you have improved! This is a tricky skill. To help you remember to plan teacher time first, then the must dos. If you have any space, add in the can dos. You also need to make sure you follow your plan so you can complete all your learning activities. Practising these skills will help you to grow and develop as a learner.
